Floyd Martin Powers (age 93) passed away on February 6, 2018 in Kirtland, NM.
Floyd was born to Marvin and Josephine Powers in Hobart, Oklahoma on September 24, 1924. He is preceded in death by his parents and 3 brothers, Walter Powers, Elmer Powers, Lloyd Powers (his twin brother) and his son Garrel.
Floyd was a WWII Veteran. After military service, he started working as a lineman for Southwest Public Service in Clovis, NM. He moved to Farmington in the mid-1950s and continued his lineman career with the City of Farmington. Farmington is also where he met the love of his life, Rubita (Ruby).They were happily married February 3, 1954. They just celebrated their 64th Wedding Anniversary.
A few years after their marriage, he decided to change career paths which led him to do many things. He opened Floyd’s Auto Sales, salvage businesses, and a pawn shop. He was very successful in any endeavor he pursued.
In his 40s, he enjoyed flying small single engine planes and even rebuilt one from scratch in the mid-70s. He enjoyed tinkering with many things and did so right up until the end. He had many hobbies- horseback riding, gardening, camping and he seemed to have a fondness for old Alis Chalmers tractors to mention a few. He led a very active life and was very well liked by all he met.
He is survived by his wife, Rubita (Ruby) Powers, and three children, Tom Powers (Kirtland), Twila Quintana (Kirtland) Cecilia Billings (Farmington), 14 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren. He will be dearly missed.
The services will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Farmington on Tuesday, February 13th. 10:30 am – Rosary 11:00 am - Mass
