Richard Greenaker

Richard John "Rick" Greenaker
Earth has lost a great man. Richard John Greenaker, 72, succumbed to cancer at home surrounded by family on Sunday. Rick is predeceased by his mother Elsie and step-father Robert Wiedrich. He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Andrea Greenaker, his two children John and Paula Dry, his brother and sister-in-law Edward and Mary Greenaker and their children Joshua Greenaker and Sara (Chris) Bankich, and great-nephew Benjamin Bankich.
Rick served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War and valued and maintained relationships with his brothers in arms. From there he went to Colorado Mountain College and earned an Associate's Degree in Photography. For many years, Rick was an over-the-road truck driver; he retired as a CDL Associate Professor at San Juan College. As a lifelong Boy Scout, he belonged to the Order of the Arrow and was an accomplished Scoutmaster who founded troops in Aztec and Farmington. Rick was a Master Mason, a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason, and a Shriner. He was a member of Caliente Community Chorus; he and Andrea enjoyed Caliente's trip to Scotland and Ireland in 2017. In addition, he sang in the choirs at Aztec Presbyterian and First Presbyterian Church in Farmington and served as an elder and deacon. Rick was a friend of Bill W. for more than 33 years.
San Juan County residents will remember Santa Rick, who was an Official Member of The National Beard Registry (No. 7407). Rick was a graduate of the Professional Santa Claus School in Denver, CO. He touched so many people with his 'larger than life' personality, kindness, and humor.
A memorial service will be held later in the year; in lieu of flowers the family prefers you to make memorial donations in Richard Greenaker's name to the First Presbyterian Church, Farmington, or the Shriners Hospitals for Children.

Santa Rick was the most delightful people God ever placed on this earth! Graduating Class of 2011 Santas in Denver. Kind, gentle, caring and genuine. Santa Rick worked with us doing Virtual Video Visits last year and created some of the most amazing storytime videos. I will leave his treasured videos online to be enjoyed over and over. www.SantaVisitsUSA.com/Storytime/644/ Santa Rick was a true Santa from his gentle eyes to his soft voice to his warm caring spirit. I can only imagine God wanted the REAL Santa to bring joy and laughter to the little ones in heaven. It has been my honor and pleasure to have my life touched by Rick, a most genuine and loving soul. If we could all learn to be more like him. He truly made this world a better place for the time he spent with us. Thank you for a life well lived and shared! Rest in Peace!

I so wanted to give him a hug and tell him how much he meant to the world, especially to Andrea. May Rick rest in peace and I know I am thankful he is no longer in pain. Rick was a wonderful guy. I enjoyed our friendship that started at Aztec Presbyterian Church. My daughters and grandsons always thought of Rick as the real Santa, and still felt that way in spirit after they grew up. Rick seemed to always have a smile on his face. Andrea, our prayers are with you in this time of loss. Thereare somanh good memories to keep us company.

Mr. Greenaker we will miss you tremendously. My boys, Will and Alex have very fond memories of scouting with you. I learned so much by watching you live the Scout Oath and the scout way of life. Then I met you as a friend of Bill W. You became an even more important person in my life. I am glad I got to know you. You will forever be in my heart and the hearts of my boys.Andrea and family, my heart grieves and aches with you. Much love to you all.

He was part of their Order of the Arrow group and we traveled and camped a lot. He was Santa at church and he was our friend. We will miss his smile and wit and jokes.
