Alan Keith La Selle, 77, of Farmington, New Mexico, passed away on June 1, 2025, in Farmington, New Mexico. Alan was born on October 15, 1947, in Cheyenne, CO, to parents Nan and Cowlson La Selle.
Alan La Selle was a true original—a weathered cowboy with a soul full of stories, some too wild to believe, others too poignant to forget. Tall in stature and larger in presence, he fancied himself a bit of a ladies’ man, often flashing a sly grin beneath the brim of his black Stetson. He had a poet’s heart hidden beneath a rough exterior, frequently gazing up at the moon and stars in quiet wonder, as if pondering the mysteries of the universe and what lay beyond the horizon.
Born on the eastern plains of Colorado, Alan came to understand early on the unforgiving nature of the world. Yet, those hard lessons only deepened his resilience. A proud patriot, he served his country with honor in the United States military, and never lost his deep reverence for the freedoms he helped protect. He was a lover of history, a master of dry wit, and a lifelong learner who devoured books like old friends.
Above all, he loved his dogs fiercely—they were his truest companions, and he would have moved mountains for them.
To everyone who knew him, he was unmistakably, unapologetically Al: plain-spoken, sharp-eyed, and entirely himself.
And so, the old cowboy tips his hat one last time and rides off into the sunset—his stories echoing on the wind, his legacy etched in the hearts he left behind.
Alan is preceded by his wife Janet Louise La Selle, parents Nan and Cowlson La Selle, and brother Rob La Selle.
Alan is survived by his son Cameron La Selle, daughters Stacey Selkon, and Nicole Clark, grandchildren Anastasia Wilkinson, Aliyah Wilkinson, Gigi La Selle, Harley La Selle, Shawn La Selle, Tim La Selle, Ryleigh La Selle, Shaina Hughes, Brett Hughes and Brian Hughes.
