Alfred Goossen

d. February 3, 2023

Farmington

Alfred Goossen, 85 of Farmington, NM, passed away at home on February 3, 2023. He was born January 21, 1938, in Hillsboro, KS to parents John D and Florentine Goossen.

Alfred was born the youngest of 7 with 2 sisters and 4 brothers in the small farming community of Hillsboro, KS. He attended the one room schoolhouse through the 8th grade and later achieved his GED. Alfred learned how to work hard alongside his family but told excellent stories of his Hollywood Cowboy antics with his favorite horse Rusty. He would jump from the hayloft in his western attire onto the back of his trusty steed only to have his horse move at the last-minute and....well you know the rest of the story. During the summer months you could find him sleeping in the field with his horse under the stars. Alfred served in the United States Army as a Specialist 4 from 1961 to 1963 where he received a 'good conduct' medal and an honorable discharge. He moved his family to Farmington, NM where he worked at Rio Grande Motorway delivering freight for 25 years. Alfred's favorite past times were motorcycles and Bluegrass music, playing guitar with talented friends and family in the San Juan Valley area. Alfred also became a master at buy, sell, and trade and was known to enjoy a good argument. Alfred was married to his wife Donna for 53 years and raised 5 children.

Alfred was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Reuben, Anton, Raymond and Johnny, and his sisters Alvena and Della and a granddaughter Samantha.

Alfred is survived by his loving wife Donna Goossen, Daughters Cindy Gray and Tonya (Doug) Duke, and sons Jesse (Arlene), Jeff (Amanda) and Rex Goossen. Grandchildren Lacey, Jeffery, Shyenne, Jacob, Orin, Delton and Dakota and 14 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
