At the age of 90, Alma Howard Lambson of Kirtland, NM rode off into the sunset peacefully on June 16, 2026, leaving behind a life marked by hard work, quiet strength, and deep love for God, family, country, and the cowboy way of life.
Born on August 5, 1935 in Ramah, NM to Marion A. Lambson and Lucille Graff, Howard spent a great deal of his life doing what he loved most – ranching and riding horses. He was a true cowboy in every sense of the word: dependable, tough as nails, and always ready with a story, or a helping hand. Whether he was fixing fence or working cattle, he found purpose in the life he built. With calloused hands and a heart full of grit, he dedicated his life to supporting his family, to the livestock that depended upon him and to lending a helping hand to anyone that needed it.
As a young man, Howard worked for the Uranium companies, then moving on to be a truck driver and a store manager. He also spent time as a Boilermaker, an auto parts manager for the schools and a sheepherder. He later attended Auctioneering School and became an accomplished auctioneer. But his passion was always being a rancher, which he continued to do throughout his lifetime.
He was married to Dorothy Rowley on May 20, 1957, in the Salt Lake Temple, Salt Lake City, UT and together they had seven children. Each of his children carries a piece of his spirit, wisdom, stubbornness, and the lessons he imparted about hard work, reliability, and the importance of family.
Howard is survived by his children: Vernon Lambson (Kristina), Almie Lambson (Jill), Wanda Smith (Kenny), Phyllis Morancy (Todd), Lloyd Lambson (Paula), Hazel Jackson (Donnie), along with, Jerry and Tim Osborn, whom he helped raise, 28 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren, sisters Billie Bond (Dean), Jeraldine Vanderwagen (Greg), brothers Lee Lambson, Monty Lambson (Cheryl), Sherrill Lambson, former wife and mother of his children, Dorothy Lambson, and many extended family members and friends who will all miss him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Roger Dale, his sister-in-law, Polie Lambson, and his brother, Frank Lambson.
A service to honor his life will be held on June 27, 2026, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 10 Road 6523, Kirtland, NM, at 1:00pm, with a viewing to be held one hour prior, at 12:00pm to 12:45pm, and the funeral services following. The graveside service will be at the Kirtland Cemetery, 59 Road 6580, Kirtland, NM, following the funeral.
Howard will be remembered for his worn boots, strong handshake, and generous heart. While raising cattle, he was always able to keep his and his families’ freezers well stocked with beef, and as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints all his life, he was always willing to help meet the needs of many others, by helping them in this way as well.
