Alvina 'Bina' Gomez Aguirre, 78, of Aztec, NM, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on June 22, 2026, in Farmington, NM. Bina was born on July 27, 1947, in Farmington, NM, to Medardo Gomez and Mary J. Salazar Gomez.
Bina grew up in Bloomfield, NM in a large extended family. She graduated from Bloomfield High School in 1965. Bina married Humberto Aguirre on November 24, 1973, and they raised their family in Bloomfield, NM. Bina worked her whole life, but she was most proud of her role as Pharmacy Tech until she retired. Bina enjoyed life to the fullest, made many friends easily and kept every one of them, and loved to make people laugh. She faced many trials in life and suffered loss, but her Faith got her through all of it. She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren fiercely and enjoyed Face Timing them and shopping for their birthdays and Christmas gifts. Bina moved to Aztec in 2022 and joined the St. Joseph Catholic Church Family. She was in the Legion of Mary and served as President of Our Lady Queen of the Americans Praesidium at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Aztec. She was very active in her church community, was a member of the Rosary Making club, quilting club, book club, she loved Soduko, crossword puzzles, crafting, and singing. She loved to pray the Rosary for anyone who needed prayer and to make people smile no matter what mood they were in. She loved cooking, especially during Christmas. It was always amazing eating her biscochitos and tamales and sometimes her cracker style tortillas that she thought were so ugly but tasted like heaven!
Bina was preceded in death by her husband, Humberto Aguirre; her parents, Mary and Medardo Gomez; her brothers, Medardo Gomez and Valentin Gomez; her sisters, Rebecca Gonzales and Cecilia Serna; and her grandson, Robert "RJ" Akley.
She is survived by her sons, David (Sandra) Aguirre and Tony (Heidi) Aguirre; her daughter, Cecilia Liza (Alfred) Lobato; her siblings, Gloria (Lee) Fernandez, Darlene Cruz, Joseph Gomez, and Dolores (Roger) Prado; her grandchildren, Andrew (Trisha) Gomez, Gabriel (Jamie) Aguirre, Aubrey Aguirre, Adam (Elena) Aguirre, Elena (Mateo) Sosa, Mia Aguirre (Terance Phillips), Dominique Aguirre, and Bianca Aguirre; and her great-grandchildren, Dax Sosa, Fayelynn Aguirre, Lorenzo Phillips, Ayden Sosa, Naomi Aguirre, Ellie Phillips, and Elliana Aguirre.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 307 N. Church Street, in Bloomfield, NM. A rosary will be recited at 10:00 am and a Memorial Mass will follow at 11:00 am. The Reverend Francis Akano, Reverend Jim Walker and Deacons Patrick Valdez and Marty Smith will officiate. Interment will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Bloomfield, NM later this summer.
The family will receive relatives and friends immediately following Mass at the St. Rose of Lima’s parish hall in Blanco, NM.
