Jean Everitt

Aztec - Jean Everitt, 86 of Aztec, New Mexico died peacefully, February 15th of 2022. She was born and raised in Ridgway, Colorado, to George and Florence Baumguardner. She was one of 13 children.

As a young girl she spent her weekends in Ouray Co. with her grandparents John and Agnes Pritchard or William and Maude Baumgardner. She would pin curl her Grandma Baumgardner's hair every weekend for a quarter. Jean loved to sing and dance. She won a singing contest on the Montrose local radio station, KUBC. She was a cheerleader at Ridgway High School and graduated in 1953.

Jean married the love of her life, Raymond Everitt, in June of 1953. She had three children. After following Ray to several El Paso gas camps, they settled in Aztec in 1964. She fell in love with the people of Aztec, always opening up her home for large gatherings with family and friends. Jean never met a stranger, and everyone was welcome. Jean had many roles, Wife, Mother, Sister, Granny, Great Granny, and Friend. She raised a family built on love, supporting and encouraging others. She had a kindness that surrounded her and made everyone feel important. She had a gift for making people feel loved.

A faithful member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church for 57 years and was also a member of the choir. Many know God's love, because He loved them through a woman named Jean.

There is no better summary of a successful life. Jean served the purpose of God in her own generation. And then she fell asleep.

She is preceded in death by her husband Raymond Everitt, daughter Pamela Warren, parents; George and Florence Baumgardner, seven brothers; Robert, William, Ray Keith, Jack, Thomas and Roy. Three sisters; Marjorie Soderquist, Nellie Merling, and Lois Bryan.

My thoughts and prayers are with you all. May your memories comfort you throughout the years to come. A very special lady. A good friend to my mother. I loved her chocolate no-bake cookies she would share when Pam and I practiced our cheers after school at her home.
