Aubrey Dee Wood, 86, of Bloomfield, New Mexico, passed away on April 30, 2025, in Bloomfield, New Mexico. Aubrey was born on October 31, 1938, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, to parents Edward F. Wood and Sadie E. Wood.
Aubrey Dee Wood, a devoted cowboy, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on April 30, 2025, at the age of 86. A proud gold card member of the Professional Cowboys Association (PRCA), he lived a life deeply rooted in the values of hard work, family, and care for the animals he loved.
His passion for the rodeo was lifelong- from his days competing professionally to traveling the rodeo circuit with his son, daughter, and later his grandson. He found joy not just in the competition, but in the time spent together on the road and in the arena.
He worked for Southern Union Gas Company and El Paso Natural Gas Company and also spent time trading cattle- always with a deep respect for the land and livestock. One of his most cherished roles was at San Juan Downs, where he took great pride in maintaining the racetrack. He made it his mission to ensure the ground was perfect to protect the horses, a reflection of the care and respect he showed all animals.
He believed in putting animals first, teaching his family that “they cannot care for themselves”. His heart for helping others, whether family, friend, or stranger, left a lasting legacy of kindness and quiet strength.
He is deeply loved and will be profoundly missed by his family and all who knew him.
Aubrey is preceded by his son Tim Kirby Wood, parents Edward F. Wood and Sadie E. Wood, brother Edward D. Wood, and sister Lena Mae Hare.
Aubrey is survived by his wife Patti A. Wood, daughter Tami D. Worden (Mark), grandchildren Kelli K. Hennequin (Lorens), and Timothy M. Worden (Abby).
