Beverly Drass was born in Washington, DC on February 3, 1932. She was the first child of Charles F. and Emma V. Drass. In 1937 the family moved to Greenbelt, Maryland for her father’s work.
Beverly was part of the first graduating class of Greenbelt High School in 1948 at the age of 16. She was an honor graduate in Commercial Business/Secretarial courses.
Sometime after graduation the family moved to Albuquerque, NM where Beverly enjoyed riding horses and roller skating. She worked as a stenographer for two years.
In 1950 Beverly became secretary to the Vice President of Public Service Company of New Mexico. While in Albuquerque she met Robert W. Allen, who was in the Air Force, and they married on October 16, 1953. Over the next eight years they had four children, two girls and two boys.
Beverly switched jobs, working for Field Command Sandia Special Weapons Depot officer in charge. Over the years through 1960 she worked at Sandia Base working her way up as a secretary for higher ranking officers. At that time, she took some time off to raise her children.
In 1968 she returned to work at Mark Twain Elementary as secretary to the principal. Then at Comanche Elementary as secretary to the principal as well.
In 1972 the family moved to Farmington, NM for Bob’s work. In Farmington she worked at McKinley Elementary as secretary to the principal.
Beverly was a volunteer for many years at SJRMC in Farmington. She also enjoyed playing golf, bowling, playing canasta, bridge and Bunco. She also loved traveling with friends after Bob passed.
Beverly was a kind, friendly, loving person who would help anyone in need. I never heard her say a bad word about anyone. She always told her children if you can’t say anything nice don’t say anything at all. She was the best mother any child could hope for. She was truly loved and will be greatly missed.
