Carolyn Belle Curry, cherished wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend passed away on September 24, 2024, surrounded by family. She was a beautiful, gentle, strong, kind, loving, extraordinary lady. She always made those around her feel special and loved.
Carolyn was born to Lew and Marybelle McCoy on November 24th, 1938, in Flora Vista, New Mexico. She attended grade school in Flora Vista and graduated from school in Aztec, NM. She married her husband Otha Vaughn, better known as Cotton Curry on September 14, 1956. They built and lived a beautiful life together for 68 years, the earlier years living and operating a farm in Coleman, Texas and in their later years moving back to live in Flora Vista, New Mexico.
She was preceded in death by her parents Lew Allen McCoy and Marybelle Ellen McCoy, her siblings, Ted Hood, Quina Holder and Leroy McCoy, her nephew Terry Hood and great grandson Jazz Jones.
Carolyn is survived by her husband Otha Vaughn Curry (Cotton), her son Michael Curry and wife Evyonne, her daughter Teresa Johnson and husband Marty, her daughter Sherry Curry-Graves and husband Matt, her grandchildren Tammy Withers and husband Cory, Janet Lindley and husband Garret, Marcus Johnson and wife Laura, Christopher Johnson, Chelsea Chairion, and her great grandchildren Braxdyn, Ben, Emma and Auri. She’s also survived by cherished nieces and nephews and their families.
Her life had many facets. At various times in her life, she was a farmer’s wife helping with all that a farm entails, she owned and operated a clothing store, became a receptionist for Burlington Oil, her and Cotton operated a Clover Club Potato chip business, she was the pianist for the First Baptist Church of Flora Vista and was a wonderful artist with a love for Jesus, all the while creating a beautiful, caring home life for her family.
In the fitting words of her loved niece, Jennifer McCoy: It is so sad we lost our rootin tootin, Texas rattlesnake shootin, dress shop ownin, wild turkey cookin, cow milkin, potato chip sellin, desert beauty and artist Carolyn Curry last evening. She gained her wings and is flying high with Jesus! We love you & you will be forever missed!
We want to thank the St Michael's Namaste House Assisted Living for their excellent and loving care of Carolyn in her final months of life. Alana and her staff were the most loving staff, angels here on earth. Words cannot express how much Carolyn’s family appreciated their kindness and their excellent care to Carolyn.
A memorial service is scheduled for 11 am on September 28th, 2024, at the First Baptist Church of Flora Vista, #21 Rd 3500, Flora Vista, New Mexico with pastor Mike Morrison officiating the service.
