Charles Lee Hickman

1958 - 2018

Charles lost his battle to cancer at home surrounded with family on Thursday morning. He was raised by a man that he dearly loved who gave him values for life and that showing respect to others is of utmost importance.

He was an amazing man who loved with all his heart. If Charles was your friend you can bet he truly was your friend. He worked his whole life being the best he could for his family. His passion was farming, hunting, and fishing.

Working as a welder he created some amazing things for a lot of people. His pride in a job well done showed in everything he did. He always told us all that if we “do it right the first time and you won’t have to do it again” and we all learned to do it right the “first time” because it was guaranteed if we didn’t, he would make us do it again until it was right.

Charles married the love of his life, Verna, 33 years ago and started a journey he never thought was possible. He raised four children: Vicki (Kyle), Kenny (Trudie), Afton, and Jodie Ann who kept him on his toes. Those children brought grandchildren to whom he gave special names to each and every one: Shayla (squirt), Makinzey (papas mak), Kylie (turtle2), Riley (wart), and Rhiannon (woot). And then came the greats: Angel May (poot) and Eli (buddy ruff) who brightened his soul. His one and only “little” sister, Katrina (Gary), was very important to him even though he did not express that well.

His parents, Keith and Lee Ann; nephew, Alan; and cousin, Jerry; as well as all his grandparents met him in heaven. His life was full and he knew that the best and greatest things in our world cannot be seen or heard but are felt within our hearts.

Uncle Vernon, Little Charlie Grubbs, Kenny Huggins, Wes Chapman, Steve Rowe, the “Chief”, Daniel Merchant, Frank Blackmer and Kirk Payne were very special men in his life and he wanted to make sure they knew this. There are also two women that he loved with all his heart: Aunt Betty and cousin Gwen.

A celebration of his life will be held at First Baptist Church Kirtland, 17 CR 6500, Kirtland, NM Saturday, August 11, 2018 at 4:00 pm with Bro. Brett Puckitt officiating. Please, if you have a story to share come and do so.
