Charles Albert Hobbs passed away on March 1, 2023, in Farmington, New Mexico. Charles was born on May 17, 1927, in Hutchison, Kansas to Blenn Emaline Hull and Alvin Franklin Hobbs.

Charles moved from Missouri to Delta, CO with 5 siblings, in 1937 after his father’s death, where he met his future wife Maxine Vaughan. He was drafted into the Navy in 1945. Charles was one of 18 children between his mother, father and stepfather.

Charles married Maxine on November 15, 1948, in Clovis, NM. He worked on oil rigs in the TX & OK Panhandle before relocating to Farmington in 1953. They were blessed with son David Charles Hobbs on August 12, 1953. Charles worked for El Paso Natural Gas Co. for 32 years, working the oil & gas fields in the San Juan Basin. They remained in Farmington until retirement in 1985.

After retiring, they moved to sunny, Mesa, Arizona into the Mesa Regal retirement community. In retirement, they traveled the United States, Canada, and South America, including a 3-month road trip to Alaska, to Hawaii, as well as Venezuela and Curacao. They were beloved residents of Mesa Regal for 35 years, making them the longest residents in the community’s history.

Charles was known for lending a helping hand to anyone. Never one to complain, he had a strong work ethic and sweet nature. He also served as usher for 8 years at his local AZ church. He was a beloved grandpa to Sarah Jamison Hobbs and Andrea Jill Gross and a loving great grandpa to Wyatt David Gross and Cody Jamison Gross.

Charles is survived by his wife Maxine Hobbs, his son David Hobbs, daughter-in-law Jill Hobbs, granddaughters Sarah Jamison Hobbs, Andrea Jill Gross, grandson in law David Gross and great grandsons Wyatt and Cody Gross.

He was preceded in death by siblings Joseph Hobbs, Mary Hobbs Floyd Pittsinger, Helen Berger, Robert Hobbs, George Hobbs, and Kenneth Esser. He is survived by sisters Pearl Lock & Twila Love, and brother Larry Esser.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Farmington Funeral Home.

Viewing Tuesday March 7, 2023, at 11:30-12:30 at Farmington Funeral Home, followed by a gravesite burial service at Memory Gardens from 1-2PM.
