Obituary

On 29 April 2026, Christopher (Chris) Marquez made his final cast of a fishing line into a trout stream high in the Colorado mountians. Don't know if he was successful as he kept secret his successes in the waters in which the 'rainbows' and the 'browns' ruled.

His formal name was Christopher Gregory Marquez and was the progeny of Jenaro and Christine Marquez, born in Belen, New Mexico 22 August 1958.

Chris spent most of formative years residing in Aztec, NM and attending the public school system, graduating with the class of 1977. He was a rather cavalier student but did manage to meet the minimums which allowed a saunter across the graduation stage and be a recipient of a coveted high school diploma.

Post high school he donned the collar of 'blue' and spent his working years using his hands at the lathe to create precisely honed and crafted machine parts, and as a carpenter, was a builder of homes and structures. He took great pride in his manual skills and was well respected in both fields of endeavor.

Fishing was his mistress and when time permited he could be found wading the creeks of Colorado, casting his line hither and yon in pursuit of the "big one." Catching, releasing and being one with nature brought him serenity and comfort. The trout no longer have to fear his arrival. He liked trucks, especially four- wheel drive trucks. They were was his steed of choice through the years. He never failed to have a can of Copenhagen in the console to be near at hand. A dancer he was, had a fondness for two-stepping at the Country Palace dance hall and saloon in Flora Vista. Never saw him dance but was told he did glide smoothly across the varnished floor.

He was the second son to proceed over the final horizon, as his brother Kenny, parents Jenaro and Christine along with grandparents Savino and Elena Jaquez now await his arrival. He leaves behind three daughters, Natosha, Jade and Cori. Siblings, Marsha, "Cookie, "Edward, Robert and Stephen. Also Debra Woodbrey, a special lady who was his companion for many years, she was his comfort and safe haven, he was a lucky man to have her in his life.

"Fair Winds and Following Seas Chris," you will be missed.

Services will be conducted at a later date.
