Daniel Baird was born in Durango, Colorado on January 16, 1952 to Margaret Arabelle Gallavan and Louis T. Baird. He passed away on Friday, October 20, 2023 at the age of 71. Dan was one of seven children. He grew up on the family ranch north of Elmore's. He graduated from Durango High School in May of 1970.
He and his twin brother were drafted to the Army in 1972. He was stationed in Fort Gordon in Augusta, Georgia. Dan was in charge of the mess hall where he perfected his recipes and got cook of the month. He was honorably discharged in August of 1974. He was blessed with three children Michael, Kenny, and Amy. The family enjoyed camping, fishing, and boating together. He worked in the farming and ranching communities around the four corners, as well as the oil field. After retirement in 2013, he started helping his twin brother on his ranch and being a handyman for anyone that needed help. He loved being horseback in the mountains and spent his last day with his brothers, Larry and Denny, chasing cows. He was a good Samaritan and always had others in mind.
He survived by his daughter Amy, two sons, Michael (Christina) and Kenny. He also survived by his brothers John (Elaine), Larry (Karla), Leo, Denny (Sharon) and sisters, Mary (Kyle) Payne and Ellen (Carey) Williams. He had 11 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. He also had numerous nieces and nephews. All of which were the light of his life.
A service will be held on Friday, October 27, 2023 at 10 A.M. at the Spring Creek Hall. 8211 C.R. 334, Ignacio, Colorado 81137
