David Walraven

David LaVerne Walraven fought the good fight and left this world to go home to be with the Lord on May 2, 2021. David was born to John and Eva May Walraven on November 20, 1928, in North Bend Nebraska. David, Wally, Dave, or LaVerne as his family called him, worked hard all of his life. He did everything from sugar beet farmer, oilfield hand, electrician, dairy farmer, and curator at Bolack Museum. He was known for his big garden, and always had a beautiful yard with plenty of rose bushes. In his younger years, he was an avid reader. He loved homemade ice cream, which we had almost every Sunday when he had the dairy. He loved kids and had a nickname for almost every child!
David chased after and married the love of his life, Dorothy Maggard on June 4,1950. They were happily married for sixty one years. David and Dorothy loved watching the grandkids play baseball, softball, football, soccer, and rodeo. They were even known to hang out at the fairgrounds watching roping until one or two in the morning.
David was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy, his parents, three brothers Jerry, Paul, John Joe, four sisters, Mildred Albro, Bernice Wheeler, Mary Ann Coolidge, and Virginia Spathe, grandson Heath Arnold, great-grandson Kyler Beaty, and great grand-daughter Alexis Arnold.
He is survived by his wife Barbara, six children; David (Annie), Pam (Rick) Arnold, Alan (Tara), Jody (James) Ray, Russell (Melynda), and Kim (Dave) Byrd. He has 14 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-granddaughter, and numerous family members and friends.
His teasing, ornery grin and dancing green eyes will be missed by us all but as dad would say, "Ya gotta be tough".
Services will be held at First Baptist Kirtland, 17 County Road 6500 in Kirtland.
Interment will follow at Kirtland-Fruitland Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Sam Walraven, Ryan Arnold, Shawn Walraven, Shea Walraven, Joshua Ray, Jacob Ray, Wacey Walraven, Rodee Walraven, and Justin Hipsher.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Beehive for taking such good care of David (LaVerne).
Arrangements are pending. Please contact Farmington Funeral Home for updates regarding the date and time.
