Doris Thomason, 88, of Farmington, passed away peacefully Sunday, Dec. 17, 2017, after a long and courageous battle with MSA. She was born June 6, 1929, in Farmington, the daughter of Paul and Cecelia Ransom.

While working for El Paso Natural Gas Co. she met James Thomason and they were married April 18, 1953. They were blessed with three children, Tommy, Wanda, and Janice.

After years of devoting herself to raising their children, she pursued a degree in Elementary Education.

She then taught first grade at Blanco for 15 years. After retirement, she became very active in her community. She was a member of UMW, garden club, quilt guild, retired teachers association, library board in Bloomfield and 2 bridge groups.

Doris loved to travel, sew, garden and play bridge.

Doris was preceded in death by her husband, James Thomason; parents, Paul and Cecelia Ransom; brother, Phillip Ransom; sister, Sheila Ransom; and grandson, Blake Thomason. She is survived by her sisters, Viola (David) Kelly, Linda (Doug) Smith and Patricia (Tom) Gifford; children, Tommy (Linda) Thomason, Wanda (Mike) O’Nan and Janice (Billy) Snell; brothers, Ken (Charolette) Ransom and Vernon (Lolita) Ransom; grandchildren, Wesley, Ashley, Chelsea Thomason; Ryan, Jessica, Chester O’Nan; Tiffany, Bobby Kimball; Brian, Sandra, Bobby, Jessie, Cody, Sherice, Chad, and Cash Snell; Trisha Miller; and great-grandchildren, Quinn, James, Paige, Aliya, Summer, Cayden, Diego, Eli, Lyla, Jacquelynn, Cruz, and Cason.

Thank you to all the caregivers that were such a blessing and a special thanks to the Gingerich Home that saw her through her most difficult last year.

A memorial service for Doris will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 23 at the First United Methodist Church, 1105 N. First St. in Bloomfield with the Rev. Eileen Utton officiating. Interment to follow at the Bloomfield Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: First United Methodist Church of Bloomfield or The Gingerich Home for the Elderly.
