Dorothy Jean Pancoast

Dorothy "Jean" Pancoast passed away October 27th, 2023. Jean was born September 26^th, 1938, to John and Muriel Humpert in Kiowa, Colorado, the 4th of 5 children. Growing up near Kiowa, she lived briefly in Michigan, where she graduated as valedictorian at Reese High School. She often spoke of her adventures growing up on the ranch with her siblings and friends.

She moved to Denver to go to college. She married Stan Anderson, and they had a daughter, Amy. They divorced, and she met and married Dale Pancoast in 1967, at which time they made Farmington their home and started a business. Dale and Jean then had 3 more daughters, Marcia, Bobbi and Rhonda.

Jean worked as receptionist for their business, Arctic Refrigeration, then worked in the schools as a teacher's aide. In 1980 she and Dale bought The Bookcase, and she became a bookseller, which she was a natural at, given her passion for reading and her love to help people find a great book. Jean was an integral part of the bookstore and continued to pop in occasionally until August of this year.

An artist at heart, she enjoyed painting, crocheting, decorating cakes, and doing ceramics. Jean was a gardener, and loved planting flowers. She never stopped reading, and always had several books in her to-be-read pile. Jean loved her family and was proud of her children and grandchildren.

Jean was predeceased by Dale, her parents, her siblings Jack Humpert, Bob Humpert and Lorie Brice, and a grandson, Aaron Lopez. Surviving her are her daughters Amy (Michael) Henkenius, Marcia Linn, Bobbi Lopez, and Rhonda Young, and grandchildren, Lydia (Colten) Ashley, Nathan Henkenius, Sean Henkenius, Alex Linn, Kylie Lopez, Brittani Linn, Kiera Lopez, Brandon Lopez, James Young and Josie Young, her sister, Helen Rose, sister-in-law, Marion Humpert, and numerous friends, cousins and extended family.
