Dorothy Jane Shryock, age 98 of Aztec, New Mexico, passed away on Friday September 5, 2025. She was born on December 19, 1926, in Colorado Springs, Co., to Otto J. and Alma Brandenburg.
Dorothy moved to the Cedar Hill Area when she was just eleven years old and attended school in Cedar Hill and Aztec until Graduation. She met Bill Shryock when he was in the Unted States Marine Corps. And they married in 1946. They moved to Darrouzett, Texas and lived there for three years. They then moved back to Aztec, NM where they loved and worked. Dorothy and Bill built and ran the Kiva Trading Post at Aztec Ruins for several years then sold the business and went on to build a self-service gas station in Bloomfield NM. The station remained in the family for several years. Dorothy kept the books for both businesses and worked at both as well.
Dorothy was a member of the Beta Sigma Pat Sorority in Aztec. Bill and Dorothy built and ran the first fast food restaurant in San Juan County "The Dairy Cream" located in Aztec from 1953 until 1956.
Preceding her in death was her beloved husband of 56 years William P Shryock, her parents Otto and Alma Brandenburg. One brother Everette Brandenburg and one sister Jean Marie Cochran. Son-in-law E. Mark Welch.
Surviving are her daughters Phyllis (Sam) Martinez and Becky Welch. Sons; Patrick (Yvonne), David (Jeannie) and Mike (Cynthia) Shryock. Numerous Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren and Great Great Grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 Am Thursday September 11, 2025, at Journey Church, 1901 E. Murray Street, Farmington, NM. Interment will be at Cedar Hill Cemetery, followed by a reception at 2:00 pm at the Aztec Civic Center.
Serving as Pallbearers will be Dustin Shryock, Chad Ingalls, Cheyenne Shryock, Cody Clarence, Travis Florez, BJ Perry, Luis Vasquez and Matt Serrano. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren and Great Great Grandchildren
