Obituary

It is with a heavy heart that we share the news of Dwight Stanley Lawing's passing on April 2, 2026, in Farmington, NM. Born on June 12, 1932, in San Gabriel Valley, Dwight lived a rich and colorful life. He graduated from Mark Keppel High School and threw himself into work, joining the Local 5 Asbestos Workers Union in 1954 and dedicating 36 years to the craft before retiring in 1989.

Dwight was a man of many talents and experiences. He married Carol Johnson in 1962, and they welcomed two wonderful sons, Vincent and Christopher. After a divorce in 1970, Dwight spent some time living on a sailboat in Marina Del Rey before embarking on an adventurous stint with the Alaska Pipeline from 1974-1977. In 1982, he married Anna, and said it was "the smartest thing I ever did." Together, they moved around a bit, spending time in Pismo Beach before settling in Farmington in 1996.

An artist at heart, Dwight taught watercolor and figure drawing at San Juan College for a decade and created a welcoming space at Artifacts Studios, where he thrived for 17 years. He became part of the Taylor family and found joy in his craft.

Dwight is survived by his beloved wife, Anna, his sons Vincent and Christopher, and Michael Carpenter. He's also remembered fondly by his grandchildren, Hayden, Jenson, Dahlia, and Derrick, as well as Travis and Suzanne, and great-grandchildren Hudson, Everett, Owen, and Dylan. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Wilma Lawing, and his sister, Wanda Rhyme.
