Edward Schmidt

Edward Schmidt, 74, of Farmington, New Mexico, passed from this temporary life to eternal life in heaven with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He battled ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease) over the last 8 months. Ed liked to share Acts 15:11 (that he was saved by grace through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ) with all the medical staff and visitors that came to see him. He wanted to offer hope to others by stating “I now know that the Lord forgives us and we have the hope of spending eternity with the Lord. We know Jesus Christ died on the cross to give us eternal life.” Ed celebrated a birthday in heaven on June 4, 2018, where there is no ALS, no pain, and no tears. We look forward to the day we can praise Jesus with Ed in heaven; until that day may the Lord grant us strength and courage to share the love of Christ in this fallen world, as he did.  We will miss Ed’s bright blue twinkly eyes, curly hair, and his love and passion for life.

Ed was born to Hans and Ruth (Reinke) Schmidt on November 2, 1943 in Brooklyn, New York.  Ed had one older sister, Ursula Diel, who passed away November 14, 2016 in West Covina, California.  Ed lit up when he saw his grandchildren (Meaghan Martinez, Gavin Martinez, and Reagan Gasser).  While he was working and after he retired from Arizona Public Service he tried to spend as much time as possible with his grandkids.  Ed had two children Kendra Schmidt Gasser and Edward Hans Schmidt (fiancé Melissa) and a step-son Ben Martinez Jr. (Laura). He has two nieces Shirley Noel and Robin Oldham. He loved them all dearly. Ed enjoyed trapping, fishing, hunting, and reading his Fur-Fish-Game magazines.  He and Victoria (the love of his life) enjoyed doing bible studies/devotionals, traveling, and spending time with family & friends. He had an incredible love and passion for his family.

The family would like to invite you to a celebration of Ed’s life on Saturday, June 9th at 2 PM at First Baptist Church, 700 Navajo Avenue, Aztec, New Mexico. A reception will immediately follow in Fellowship Hall. Please spend time with us after to eat and share stories.  We would really appreciate if you could write down any stories of Ed you may have. Paper will be provided if you would like to write it down at the church J.
