Elsa Iwana, a proud Mexican from Veracruz, Mexico, passed away peacefully on August 6, 2025, in Farmington, New Mexico, where she was a cherished member of the community for over 15 years. Born on February 28, 1957, in Veracruz, Elsa lived a life marked by love, faith, and unwavering dedication to those around her.
Elsa was a devoted teacher whose passion for education shone brightly in her efforts to learn English and inspire others. A true prayer warrior, she passionately read her Bible, finding strength and guidance in her deep love for God, with Psalm 91 as her cherished verse, reflecting her trust in divine protection. As a loving mother, Elsa poured her heart into her family, always thoughtful and nurturing those she held dear. Her joy of gardening and cooking healthy food mirrored her care for growth and well-being, cultivating beauty and nourishment in both her home and the lives she touched.
Her hardworking spirit and compassionate nature left a lasting impact on her community in Farmington, New Mexico, where she was known for her kindness and generosity over the past 15 years. Elsa’s legacy of faith, love and thoughtfulness will live on in countless lives she nurtured.
Elsa is survived by her loving husband, Hiroshi Iwana; her devoted son, Takeshi Iwana; her beloved mother, Rufina Avalos; and many brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Visitation and Viewing will be held on Friday August 15, 2025 from 9:00 Am to 10:00 Am followed by Funeral services at the United Pentecostal Church in Farmington, New Mexico, 1900 N. Fairview Ave., Farmington, New Mexico. Interment Memory Gardens Cemetery in Farmington.
Elsa will be deeply missed but forever remembered for her radiant faith, loving spirit, and the gardens of kindness and nourishment she cultivated in the hearts of all who knew her, under the shelter of Psalm 91.
