Fern Laughlin

Fern Ione Laughlin, 103, passed away on July 24, 2018. She was born June 11, 1915 in Torrington, WY to Carl and Stella Eaton.

Fern dedicated her life to God and was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church. She was employed as a Teachers Aide at Farmington McKinley School for 20 years and retired at the age of 80. She also worked with children who had special needs. Fern was a Life Long Community Volunteer. She participated in Bonnie Dallas Senior Center Hillbilly Band playing the kazoo throughout the area. She took Tai Chi Classes and also “Writing your Life Story” classes until the age of 103 at Bonnie Dallas Senior Center.

Fern volunteered yearly as the scrub board washer woman for the Pioneer Days at the Farmington Museum. She enjoyed music, reading, playing competitive scrabble. She was always on the go. Enjoyed walking in Berg Park along the river, where she has a memory bench in her honor. She sang in the church choir and played in the Bell Choir until she was in her 70’s. Fern and her husband Carvel enjoyed nature, camping and hunting. Most of all Fern loved her large family and numerous friends. Her life was a testimony to keep faith in our Lord. She will be missed by all who loved her.

Fern was preceded in death by her husband Carvel Hugh Laughlin; parents Carl and Stella Eaton; brothers Andrew, John, James, Jerry, David Eaton; sister Doris Echles and grandson Vince Archuleta.

She is survived by her sons Hugh Laughlin, Eugene Laughlin and Andrew Laughlin; daughter Edith (Edie) Laughlin; brother Paul Eaton; 10 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren.

Her services will be November 3, 2018 at 10:00am at The First Presbyterian Church in Farmington. Inurnment will be at the columbarium, reception to follow.
