Obituary

Frederick Dean Shondee, who was lovingly known for his kind heart, quick humor, and remarkable knowledge of vehicles, passed away on July 20, 2026, in Farmington, New Mexico, at the age of 65.

He was born on April 1, 1961, in Denver, Colorado, and carried with him throughout his life the values of hard work, loyalty, and devotion to family. Frederick was a baptized Christian man whose faith helped guide him through life’s joys and challenges, and those who knew him will remember the quiet strength and steady presence he brought to every room.

Frederick attended San Juan College, where he completed the Mechanic’s program and built upon the practical knowledge that would serve him well throughout his career. He worked as an Auto Body Mechanic, a profession that suited him perfectly and allowed him to use the talents he had honed over a lifetime. He was the kind of man who could look at a problem, find a solution, and get the job done right. His ability to work on cars, fix household items, weld, and handle electrical work made him a trusted and admired presence among family and friends. He was often the one people turned to when something needed repair, and he was always willing to help.

Beyond his work, Frederick found joy in the things that reflected his personality and interests. He enjoyed watching NASCAR and appreciated the excitement and precision of the sport. He also spent time working on a variety of different cars, a pastime that was both a skill and a source of satisfaction for him. Whether he was repairing something around the house or taking on a project that required patience and know-how, Frederick approached each task with determination and care. Those close to him will remember him as loving, funny, and handy, qualities that made him deeply appreciated and fondly remembered.

Frederick was preceded in death by his father, Freddie Shondee, and his mother, Marie Shondee. He is survived by his sisters, Elsa Shondee, Marlene Shondee, Virginia Shondee, and Tammie SanNicolas; his brother, Frank Shondee; his brother-in-law, Joseph SanNicolas; and his beloved nieces and nephew, Lena, Selesa, and Everett Shondee. He also leaves behind many others who were touched by his warmth, humor, and huge generosity of spirit.

Frederick will be remembered as a devoted son, brother, uncle, and friend whose life was marked by practical wisdom, a strong work ethic, and a genuine love for the people around him. His family and friends will cherish the memories of his laughter, his helpful nature, and the many ways he made life easier and brighter for those he loved. Though he will be deeply missed, his memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him, and his legacy of kindness, skill, and love will never be forgotten.

A viewing will be held at 9:30 AM on Saturday July 25, 2026, at Farmington Funeral Home. A celebration of life will follow at 10:30 AM. Burial will be held at 12:00 PM at Memory Gardens of Farmington.
