Gay Levitt

March 6, 1949 — April 16, 2023

Gay Levitt was born March 6th, 1949 in Jackson Michigan to her parents Rudolph and Betty Eckert. She passed on April 16th, 2023 from the horrible and ugly symptoms of Lewy body dementia. Gay and Allen met 60 years ago in Toledo, Ohio and were wed on August 2nd, 1969. Their marriage produced a son Lukas; a daughter Angel; and three terrific grandchildren: Taylor, Vladimir, and Charlie.

Gay was preceded in death by her parents Rudolph and Betty Eckert and her brother Rick.

Gay and Allen enjoyed attending numerous sporting events including World Series games and felt lucky to have connections to receive rock and roll show tickets, notably to The Beatles and, their favorite, Bruce Springsteen live in concert. Gay worked alongside Allen’s parents in a family owned jewelry shop for over 10 years. Mom and Dad absolutely adored her and they knew just how fortunate their only child was to be with such a fine hardworking and honest companion.

Gay and Allen moved from the Midwest to paradise in Durango 1975. Being a natural in the kitchen Gay worked at The Palace, Skinnys, Nortons and Huck Finn Pizza. She served on a local Babe Ruth committee for a couple of seasons. Gay was always there to assist Allen with various events during his lengthy wholesale wine sales career.

Together Gay and Allen enjoyed yearly winter stays with their two dogs in the gorgeous Tamarindo, Costa Rica. Perfect days with walks on the beach, spectacular pacific sunsets, fresh fish dinners with a bottle of Torrontes, followed by ‘Pura Vida’ time at home together.

“She had such a pleasant spirit! The best wife, friend and loyal soulmate. I love her with all my heart.” – Her husband Allen
