George Daniel Friday, Junior died on April 7, 2024, at the age of 92, in San Juan Regional Hospital in Farmington, New Mexico. George was born on July 6, 1931, in Lamesa, Texas to George Daniel Friday and Mary Ethel Evans. He moved to Midland, Texas when he was just a boy. He was married to Melba Jean Lucas Friday and had four children, son Daniel Loren Friday his daughter Morgan McClain, son Randall Lynn Friday and wife Pamela Lynn Friday and their children Jaclyn and Josh Hastings, Emily and Jacob Payne, and Jason and Hannah Friday, son Hubert Lance Friday and wife Ellen Jayne Friday and their children Philip Daniel Friday, Michael and Amanda Friday, Mark and Jordan Friday and daughter Kayla Friday Hefner and children Jeremy and Julia Hefner. He has 13 great-grandchildren, He is preceded in death by his wife Melba Jean Lucas, son Daniel Loren Friday, and Grandson Philip Daniel Friday.
George delivered Western Union Telegrams during WWII on a bicycle in downtown Midland, he was registered Boy Scout from age twelve until his death, he was a Red Cross Water Safety Instructor, he graduated from Midland High School in 1949, he served in the United States Army during the Korean conflict, he became an EMT in 1974, he graduated from Midland College in 1975, he retired from the Midland Fire Department in 1981, and retired from the Midland Building Department 1996. He was ordained a deacon 1990 at Calvary Baptist Church. In his life he worked as a carpenter, a furniture mover, a lifeguard, a machinist, and a surveyor. He served his church and community as a deacon, was a lifelong Scouter serving in the Buffalo Trail Council, Honorary Life Member of PTA, Little League coach, a city swimming instructor. His passions were Boy Scouts and woodcarving. He was a humble and generous man who would walk to work and let his sons drive his car to school.
The Friday family will have a memorial service on Monday, April 29, 2024, at 11:00am at Ellis Resthaven Memorial Park in Midland, Texas. Donations in George’s memory can be made to the Buffalo Trail Boy Scout Council, https://www.buffalotrailbsa.org/donate
