Gilbert "Gil" Jaquez, born May 18, 1938 passed away peacefully on January 15, 2026, at the age of 87.
A graduate of Aztec High School, Gil served in the U.S. Army before spending much of his adult life in New York City, as an entrepreneur in messaging technologies and various business pursuits. In Manhattan, his love of the Spanish language, Latin culture, and music endeared him to countless friends. Known for his charisma, humor, and easy charm, Gil was always ready with a story, a laugh, or a smoke.
Later in life, Gil returned to Aztec to lovingly care for his beloved mother. Becoming her caretaker was one of his most meaningful and fulfilling roles - a reflection of his compassion, patience, and deep devotion to family.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Onofre Reyes Sr. and Alvina M. Jaquez, and his siblings Stella Montoya, Mary Jo Sarason, and "Buster" Jaquez. He is survived by his sisters Georgia Lewis and Delores Jaquez, and many extended family members. His independent spirit will be forever cherished by all those who loved him.
Rosary will be held 10:30 am,Tuesday, February 10, 2026, mass will follow at 11:00 am at St. Joseph's Catholic Church on 500 N. Mesa Verde, Aztec, New Mexico. Burial will follow at Aztec Cemetery, 700 Chamisa St. Aztec, NM.
Interment will follow at Memory Gardens, 6917 E. Main Street, Farmington, NM.
In lieu of flowers, donations are appreciated to St. Joseph Catholic Church, 424 N. Mesa Verde Ave, Aztec, NM 87410, or accepted at the church services.
