Glen Arthur Hayes, 88, of Aztec, New Mexico, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on October 15, 2025. He was born on January 29, 1937, in Mount Vernon, Illinois, to William Glenn and Lena Faye Hayes.
Glen graduated from Downey High School in Downey, California, in 1955, and went on to earn his degree from Compton College in 1957. He proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1960, stationed in Germany, and later worked under a civilian contract in Vietnam from 1960 to 1963, specializing in helicopter electronics.
Throughout the 1970s, Glen held several positions, including his time at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, where he built telecommunications equipment for NASA. In 1982, he made New Mexico his home and later retired from Williams Field Services in 1998. Never one to slow down, Glen founded his own telecommunications company, Comm-Tronic’s Inc., which he operated until 2004.
A devout Christian, Glen was a faithful member of Zion Lutheran Church for 43 years. He was also a lifelong member of the NRA and the San Juan Wildlife Federation. He also served as a trap and skeet instructor for SJC 4-H. Glen found joy in many hobbies, including recording, shooting, hunting, fishing, winemaking, gardening, watching college football, and playing the harmonica.
He is welcomed home by his sons, Duane Glen Hayes and Kerry William Hayes; his parents, William Glenn and Lena Faye Hayes; his brother, Donnie Hayes; and his sister, Roberta Ingraham.
Glen is survived by his children, Jake (Tangela) Hayes, Kacy (Rebecca) Hayes, Jennifer (Daniel) Murray, Kami Calder, and Katy Paxson; as well as his 20 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held in early spring at Sutter Cemetery in Sutter, California. Please check back for updated service details.
