Gloria Sterrett

April 30, 1955 — August 1, 2018

Gloria Sterrett

Gloria (Weahkee) Sterrett, age 63 of Farmington, gained her heavenly crown on August 1, 2018. She was born on April 30, 1955 to Buster and Priscilla Weahkee in Farmington, New Mexico.

Gloria was raised in Farmington and attended Farmington High School. Gloria got into her fair share of mischief in her younger years. Her favorite pastime as a teenager was late-night racing down Main Street. She was the only girl in town who could speed shift without using a clutch. One of her closest racing rivals was Terry Sterrett. She would boast of consistently beating him…although he claims it was by a very small margin. Ironically, he built the motor in her car so it was a win-win for him.

Terry and Gloria became best friends and married on May 8, 1982 after ten years together. They raised four children and have since enjoyed fourteen grandchildren. Gloria was happiest when she was with her grandchildren. Baking sugar cookies and painting rocks were among her favorite pastimes. She also enjoyed vacationing and camping with her family.

Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Gloria leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness and generosity. She will be remembered for the sparkle of humor that lit her eyes when she was telling a story, her tender hugs that made you feel cherished and her selfless personality that often resulted in her working long, hard hours to make someone else feel special. She rarely thought of herself and never complained, even though she struggled with severe muscle cramps and pain in her body for years.

As members of the United Pentecostal Church of Farmington, Gloria and her husband, Terry, worked as a cohesive team in organizing many events. They took care of every detail from decorating to food preparation, and, of course the clean-up. You could count on them being the last to leave after every dish had been washed and floors mopped. There was no task too hard, nor job too menial for Gloria.

Though she deserved every accolade for her hard work and loyalty, she never sought praise. If fact, she would wave away those who wished to recognize her for her accomplishments. Humility was evident every part of her life, especially her singing. Though she had the low, smooth voice of an angel and perfect pitch, she avoided the spotlight. The beautiful voice that once hallowed the walls of her home and church has now joined the heavenly choir in sweet Beulah Land.

In her final months, Gloria and her family suffered through one of the most trying times of their lives. Uncertainty abounded as they were thrown into a rollercoaster of ups and downs. Through it all, Gloria held strong to her faith. Even on the days she could not express herself in words, she would bow her head in prayer and squeeze the hands of those praying with her, a light of gratitude in her eyes.

Gloria loved her Jesus. Though she endured many bumps in the road of life, she faithfully clung to Him and depended on His Word. Her legacy will remain a shining example of Christlike love, faithfulness in difficult times, and dedication to serving God and those around her. The bright, beautiful light we knew as Gloria Sterrett may be gone, but the warm glow of her legacy will remain in our hearts forever.

She was preceded in death by her parents Buster and Priscilla Weahkee, brother Buster Weahkee, Jr. and son-in-law Marc Kitchen.

She leaves behind her beloved husband Terry Sterrett, son Robby Norton and wife Deadra, daughter Neece Kitchen, son Tyson Sterrett and wife Deidra, daughter Ashton Robbins and husband Caleb, and grandchildren: Shay, Jade, Avery, Gabe, Holly, Marcqui, Elijah, Macy, Jaden, Bailee, Kannon, Tanner, Tenley, and Teghan.
