Helen Welch

Helen Louse Shasteen Welch, 81, of Farmington, New Mexico, passed away Monday evening,
August 16, 2021 at San Juan Regional hospital. She was born March 21, 1940 in Kirksville,
Illinois to Wayne and Melba Shasteen.
She is survived by her sister Margaret Meyers and her brother David Shasteen and her four
children. Kenda Skidmore of Augusta, Maine, Kathy Brown of Cortez, Colorado, Kevin Brown
of Durango, Colorado, and Vernon "Rusty" Welch (Emily) of Farmington, New Mexico. She has
five grandchildren and numerous beloved great grandchildren.
Helen was a long time resident of Farmington, New Mexico where she worked as a caregiver in
the home health industry servicing mentally handicapped adults. Helen had love and
compassion for others that showed in her daily life.
She was a wonderful mom that delighted in the achievements of her children, grandchildren
and great grandchildren. She will be remembered for her love and compassion for others. Her
laughter warmed our hearts.
She loved taking walks and bring home the rocks she found on those walks. She could often
be found sitting at a table working on a jigsaw puzzle with iced cold Pepsi within her reach.
She loved to travel to Las Vegas, Nevada. She was always up for exploring different casinos
and finding the winning slot machine. She rooted for the Chicago Cubs every game. She
enjoyed cheering on Phil Mickelson and watched every tournament he competed in.
The visitation is for family only. There will be a memorial service for family and friends at Civitan
park on Friday, August 20, 2021 at 6:00pm.
