Irma Lee Layman, beloved Bride, Mama, Grandma, and Ggma, went home to Heaven on August 8, 2022 at 88 years old.
She was the youngest of six children born to Commodore Dewey Blevins and Sarah Catherine Lewis in Green Cove, Virginia.
At 17 years of age, she married the love of her life, Billy Gene Layman, 19, of Coburn, Virginia on July 6, 1951. For the next 71 years, they built a beautiful life together.
Irma was preceded in death by both her parents, Commodore and Sarah, and all five of her siblings: Edith, Louise, Esther, Estle, and Jesse.
She is survived by her husband Billy, daughter Annette Risley, son Roger Layman, five grandchildren, and twelve great grandchildren.
Irma lived her life as a beautiful example of the gentle and selfless love of her savior, Jesus Christ: full of grace, mercy, empathy, and comfort. She was always ready to give of herself, serve others, and share her hope and faith in the Lord. It was her sincere hope and prayer that all might come to know and trust in Him as she did. Her passion for Jesus has left a legacy of faith in the hearts of her family and friends.
A celebration of life will be held for Irma at First Baptist Church of Bloomfield on Friday, August 12, 2022 at 2 pm.
