Obituary

James Edward Eldridge, 84, of Farmington, New Mexico, feel asleep peacefully on August 6, 2026, and opened his eyes to our Lord.

James was born on April 8, 1942, in an area that no longer exists, a coal camp in Virginia, to Columbus and Flora Eldridge. He grew up with a strong work ethic, a deep love for his family, and a passion to learn and explorer places he had never been. James’s life, experiences, and travels are what they make movies of, and he was always happy to share a story with you if you had time.

James married the love of his life, Ruth, and through all their highs and lows they built a life later centered on faith, family, and hard work. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He enjoyed early mornings on the lake, reading western books, old bluegrass music, driving fast, building motors with his hands, telling stories, learning about wildlife, and spending time in his bible.

James will be remembered for his grit, generous heart, and never backing down from his beliefs. He strived to do things the right way, keeping his word, and taking care of the people he loved.

James is survived by his children Gale, Dale, Carla, his seven grandchildren, his one and only granddaughter, multiple great/great grandchildren, and special friend Bert Harris. He was preceded in death by his beautiful wife Ruth, parents Columbus and Flora, and several missed brothers.

James’s wish was for cremation has taken place and a private memorial will be later. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you enjoy a warm memory of James with a big laugh.

James’s family is grateful for the love, prayers, and support they have received.
