James Lewis Jones

James Jones, age 66, of Aztec, NM, passed away on 12/30/2025.

He was a dedicated and meticulous man who took seriously the things he believed mattered. His service to his church was one of those things, and he consistently went the extra mile—not for recognition, but because he felt it was right.

He was at his best when telling stories. The unusual, and often funny, circumstances that followed him through life gave him a story for nearly every occasion. Though a stoic man by nature, once you spent time with him—and once he decided he liked you—he would regale you with a tale from some past event that left you both shocked and laughing. Those stories were how he let people in.

He wasn’t a perfect man, but he taught his children what mattered: the value of hard work, how to dedicate oneself to a task believed to be good and important, and how to endure to the end.

He was preceded in death by his wife Marie Jones.

A graveside service will be held 1/6/2026 at 10 am at East Hammond Cemetery in Bloomfield, NM.

He will be remembered for his discipline, his quiet faith, and the stories that revealed a man who understood life well enough to laugh at it.
