James Swisher

James Dwaine Swisher, (Jimmy) 63, passed away on August 23, 2025, surrounded by the beauty of the outdoors he so cherished. Born on December 8, 1961, he lived a life marked by simplicity, laughter, and a deep connection to the natural world. He was never one for fuss or fanfare - just give him a good pair of hiking boots, a fishing rod, and a quiet trail, and he was content.

James had a way of making people feel at ease. His laid-back nature, dry sense of humor, and calming presence made him the kind of man you could sit with for hours and share all of your secrets without judgement.

Whether it was camping under the stars, sitting around a fire with friends, or playing sports, James was happiest when he was outside - especially if he had his family by his side. He taught his kids how to make fires, pitch a tent, and respect nature. More than that, he showed them how to slow down and appreciate life's simple, quiet moments.

James's love for his family was quiet but unwavering. He was a loving father, a steady brother, grandfather, and a loyal friend. He didn't always say a lot, but he showed up - every time, without question. And in that way, he said everything that mattered.

He is survived by his sons Edward Ray Swisher, and Joshua David Swisher; daughters Stephany Ann Swisher and Samantha Jo Swisher; father Edward Swisher; brother Edward Swisher, Jr.; sister Shelly Hatley; grandchildren Eric Swisher, Jarek Martinez, Aubri Steward, Jayce Swisher, and Violet Swisher.

In honor of James, the family invites you to spend some time outdoors this week - take a walk, sit by a river, watch a sunset. He wouldn't want a big fuss, just people to enjoy the world he loved so much.

A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, September 6, at Farmington Funeral Home, 2111 W. Apache St. Farmington, NM. at 10:00am, with a reception to follow. Please dress comfortably, as that is what he would have wanted.
