The family of James (Jim) W. Wallace is saddened to announce his passing on October `10, 2021 of esophageal cancer. Jim was 89 years old. He was predeceased by his sister Nancy, brother Robert and parents Walker and Helen Wallace, as well as daughter Mary and grandson Jacob.
Born in Chicago, IL, Jim attended school in the Round Lake area and joined the United States Army out of high school. He served in two tours of duty in the Korean War and in nuclear testing in Desert Rock. After an honorable discharge from the Army, Jim joined the United States Marines and became a Marine Aerial Navigator in February 1959 and later served with Marine Squadron VMR 252, which operated C-119 aircraft. His squadron carried out support in the U.S., Central America, Caribbean, Europe and Africa. The squadron notably provided disaster relief in Agadir, Morocco after a devastating earthquake. Receiving another honorable discharge from the Marines, Jim chose to join the U.S. Coast Guard and was stationed in Tennessee, California and Hawaii, serving in search and rescue missions. He married Winnifred (nee Miller) in 1964 and had four children: Michael, Mary (Hoover), Barbara and Susan (Smith).
Jim is survived by three of his four children, four of his five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Jim's family will remember his intelligence and unique sense of humor, as well as his bravery and sacrifice for his country.
The family wishes to thank his caregiver Jessica Hodges and family for providing comfort in his final years and the Farmington Funeral Home for their consideration and kindness.
