Jamie Michael Sona entered the Kingdom of Heaven on October 17, 2022, in Burns, Oregon.
For the last 16 years, Jamie was a beloved professor of Veterinary Medicine at Oregon State University in Corvallis, Oregon.
Students say he was an excellent teacher, helping each and every student succeed. Every year he received awards for his excellence and dedication.
Born April 26, 1977, in Farmington, Jamie grew up in Aztec. He graduated in 1995 from Aztec High School in the top 10% of his class. From there he excelled at San Juan College and New Mexico State University. Jamie graduated at “State” with top honors and ended up at Colorado State’s Veterinary of Medicine School with a Master of Biomedical Sciences degree.
Jamie’s parents are Francine and Jack Sona. He would call most every weekend to “check in”. That is the time he and his dad would discuss various things. Jamie always enjoyed talking to his dad.
As a child and as an Adult Jamie loved Christmas (especially lights), 4th of July (for the fireworks), all of his dogs through the years, and genealogy. He was proud of the fact that he was related to Wyatt Earp. Another notable relative….Princess Diana.
This past summer, Jamie spent a lot of time at the Aztec Museum going through the history of San Juan County…taking pictures of pictures with his phone and showing them to his mom.
Jamie’s favorite football teams were the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Aztec Tigers, and the Bloomfield Bobcats.
Besides his parents, Jamie leaves his brother Jack Sona (Susan), nephew Bryce Sona, three nieces, Taylor Sona (Tim), Alyssa Sona (Thomas), Brooke Sona, great niece Ainsley Hyatt, and Aunt Jeri Fay (Scott) Jamie also has a variety of uncles, and cousins.
Jamie is proceeded in death by his older brother Jeric Sona, grandparents, and Aunt Emily Sue Martinez.
The awards for top angels during this tragic time are Jamie’s older brother Jack, Susan Furry, nephew Bryce Sona DeAnza Sona-Mead, Jeremy Mead, Aunt Vinnie McBride, Uncle Denny, cousins Eric McBride (Jess) and Tim Martinez.
Other appreciated angels are all of you who knew Jamie and were kind to him through the years.
