Jerry Dean Roberts went to be his Lord and Savior on March 5th, 2026, surrounded by his family. Jerry Roberts was born to Ella Viola (Cline) Roberts and Fletcher Andrew Roberts on July 29, 1946 in Crossville, TN. He was the 4th of 10 children. He met his wife Mary Elizabeth (Hall) Roberts in Pampa, Texas in 1973 and married on June 7, 1975 in Pampa, TX. In 2025 the couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with their children. Jerry was briefly married to Glenda Laminack and had a son Micheal Roberts. Jerry and Mary had two children Clifford and Catherine Roberts.
Jerry and his family lived in Eastern Tennessee until he was 13 years old and moved to the Texas panhandle in 1959. His father being laid off in TN brought the family to Texas. Jerry and his wife Mary moved to Farmington, New Mexico in 1988, left Texas moving to Farmington for a transfer of job for Jerry.
Work was always important to Jerry and he started working from a young age. He worked as a farmhand in Texas as a teenager and thoroughly enjoyed being a farmhand and hoed cotton for 0.50 cents an hour. Jerry honorable served his country in United States Navy during the Vietnam War serving on the USS Hornet CVS-12. He was aboard the ship when it recovered the Apollo 11 capsule following the splashdown after the first moon landing in 1969. While he never met the astronauts he would often say there were a lot of reporters on board the ship, and the food was good because of the President and dignitaries aboard! After serving his country, he went back to being a farmhand in Texas. He worked in the oilfield for Haliburton, Zenith Drilling, and Land & Marine in the Pampa area. After moving to Farmington, Jerry worked for Homco, and Weatherford. Jerry obtained his Class A CDL and started driving for Werner cross country truck driving in 1995. Health problems and being away from his family too much brought him closer to home driving regionally in the Four Corners area in 2000. He retired from US Transport in 2009.
Jerry was heavily involved in his son Clifford's Boy Scout Troup, attending campouts and hiking trips in the Farmington area. He was a very patient man, and taught his children about work ethic, how to conduct home and car repairs, how to drive (after he spoke for hours about the mechanics of driving). Clifford and Catherine learned a multitude of life lessons from him. He always had a love for trains and made his own model HO railroad diorama, enjoyed carving and making ships and planes out of balsa wood. His favorite movies were The Sound of Music, Shrek, Ice Age, and any western movie or show. Jerry was known to be a prankster, joke teller, and enjoyed making others laugh as often as possible. Jerry loved camping and fishing with his family, his family was always his biggest love. His favorite vacation were when he went to Disneyworld with his wife Mary. The birth of his children, grandkids and great grandkids were among his greatest joy.
