Jewel Lavoy McGee

November 1, 1938 — March 15, 2026

Farmington, NM

J. Lavoy McGee, born November 1, 1938, in Farmington, New Mexico, passed peacefully from this life on March 15, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

Lavoy spent his life deeply rooted in the Four Corners region he loved so dearly. As a young man in Farmington, he met Jean Irvin, whose beauty, grace, and vibrant spirit captured his heart. Their romance grew into a lifelong partnership, and they were married in the Mesa Arizona Temple in 1958, beginning a marriage defined by love, devotion, faith, and shared purpose.

During the early years of their marriage, Lavoy attended and graduated from Brigham Young University—an accomplishment that remained a lifelong point of pride. Anyone who knew Lavoy was well aware of his passion for BYU athletics, which was often his favorite topic of casual conversation.

Early in their marriage, Lavoy and Jean operated and eventually owned the Red Mesa Trading Post in Arizona, where they built strong relationships and earned the respect of the people of the Navajo Nation. Later, returning to Farmington, they continued building their legacy while raising their growing family and pursuing new ventures. Together, they operated Red Mesa Trading Post, founded Southwest Pet Supply, and maintained a cattle ranch in La Plata, New Mexico. Through hard work, determination, and true partnership, they built both a livelihood and a lasting legacy.

Lavoy was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. His greatest pride was his family. Alongside Jean, he raised nine children, instilling in them the values of faith, perseverance, and integrity. His quiet strength, unwavering work ethic, and steady presence shaped the lives of his children and grandchildren for generations to come.

A faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Lavoy lived a life guided by service to others and genuine care for those around him. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Alma Jean McGee; his parents, Jewel and Leona McGee; his brother, Michael; and his sisters, Patricia and Jeaneen.

Lavoy is survived by his nine children: Tammy (Sam), Polly (Roland), Shelley (Cal), Chuck (Sheri), Julie (Brock), Chris (Amy), Steve (Sandy), Curtis (Mychelle), and Diana (Scott); his brother, Barry; and his sisters, Marva and Debra. He is also survived by 32 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren (and counting), all of whom carry forward the legacy of faith, family, and love that Lavoy and Jean worked so faithfully to build.

Lavoy’s life was one of deep dedication—to his wife, his children, his work, and his faith. Those who knew him will remember a man of strength, character, humility, and profound devotion to the people he loved.

After a lifetime of devotion, Lavoy now rests once again beside his beloved Jean.
