Jimmie Dixon Fisher

June 22, 1938 — June 12, 2025

Aztec, NM

Jimmie Fisher, a devoted husband, beloved father, proud Grandfather, and treasured friend, passed away on Thursday, June 12, 2025, at the age of 86.

Jimmie was born on June 22, 1938 in the post office at Turn, New Mexico, to Bill (William D.) and Lola (Anglin) Fisher. Jimmie's childhood and upbringing instilled his strong work ethic, his common sense, and his determination to tackle any project, no matter how challenging. After graduating from Mountainair High School in Mountainair, NM, and a short stint at New Mexico School of Mines in Socorro, Jimmie met the love of his life, Diana Myers, on a blind date. They were married in 1961, and they were happily married for 63 years. Jimmie and Diana raised two daughters, Lea (of Tome, NM) and Lisa (of Aztec, NM). Jimmie was extremely proud of his grandchildren Aspen, Chelsea, Chance and Casey, and of his great-grandchildren Kaylynn, Madison and Brayden.

Jimmie was a man who everyone could count on to be honest, hard-working, fair and dependable. He was employed by Mountain Bell and its subsidiaries for 30 years before starting his own phone businesses, Fisher Telecomm, Inc. and Shining Mountain Enterprise. Jimmie spent his off hours at home working on the family farm outside of Aztec. This was his little patch of heaven on earth, where he raised show lambs and hay. Jimmie had a calming, gentle way of working with animals and was very proud of the beautiful home and farm that he and Diana built from the ground up. He especially enjoyed sitting on the front porch with his beloved dog, Lillie, and watching the horses and wildlife grazing in the fields.

In addition to his work and home life, Jimmie was very active in the community, serving on the San Juan County Fair Board, Aztec School Board, Aztec Chamber of Commerce, Southside Water Users Association, Lower Animas Ditch Board, Lions Club International, and the Telephone Pioneers. He was the Technical/Communications chairperson for the Tres Rios High School Rodeo Association and was the Grand Marshal for the San Juan County Fair Parade in both 1991 and 2012. He was also a 4-H club leader and served as a ringmaster for the Junior Livestock Sale for many years. Most recently, he trained and volunteered with the Civil Air Patrol. After his retirement, Jimmie and Diana enjoyed cruising and traveling to many beautiful places, both together and with their special friends, Homer and Peggy Warren.

Jimmie leaves behind a family who will forever carry on his legacy of hard work, love of God, and commitment to family. He believed that, through his work at home, at his job and in the community, he was serving the Lord. Jimmie is survived by his wife Diana, daughter, Lea Canon and husband Wayne of Tome, NM, daughter, Lisa Selby of Aztec, NM, grandchildren Aspen Thompson, Chelsea Canon, Chance Canon and Casey Wulf (Patrick) and great-grandchildren Kaylynn, Madison and Brayden Thompson. Jimmie is also survived by his sisters Phyllis Kubena (Jr.) of Mountainair, NM and Norma Petty of Lafayette, CO, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He will be deeply missed, but his life, his morals and his values will continue to inspire those who loved him.

Jimmie was preceded in death by his parents, William D. "Bill" Fisher (2005), Lola Fisher (2007), and sister Betty June Fisher (1944).

A memorial service will be held at Zion Lutheran Church in Farmington, NM on July 19, 2025 at 1 pm. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in Jimmie's memory to Cowboys for Cancer Research in Las Cruces, NM or the New Mexico Boys and Girls Ranch.
