Jimmy Burns, 80, of Gallegos Wash, NM passed away on August 19, 2026. He was born on February 17, 1946, in Carson, NM to Charley Burns Sr. and Elizabeth Nakai Yazzie. 

Born to the Bear clan and born for the Bitterwater clan.

Jimmy Burns was known for his vibrant sense of humor and generous spirit, he touched the lives of many with his kindness and compassion. His love for animals and his caring nature was evident to all who knew him. 

Jimmy dedicated much of his life to carpentry, construction, and working on the railroad, industries where his hard work and deduction shone through every project he undertook. Outside of his professional life, Jimmy was an avid outdoorsman. He cherished his time hunting, fishing, traveling, and riding ATVs, always exploring the beauty of nature. He is lovingly remembered by his grandkids and family, who survive him. Jimmy's life was a testament to the joy of giving, whether through a well-timed joke or through his endless acts of kindness. 

His spiritual beliefs guided him throughout his life, providing him with peace and purpose. 

He is preceded in death by his wife Sadie Burns, parents Charley Burns Sr. and Elizabeth Burns, brothers Charley Burns Jr., Leo Burns, Ricky Bennett, and Willie Burns. 

Jimmy is survived by his sons Johnnie Pete and Leon Burns, daughter Cecilia Burns and Beatrice Burns, stepdaughter Sovia Beyale, brother Patrick Burns, sister Isabell Yazzie, Virginia Padilla, Rosalyn Randall, Johanna Shirley, and LaVerna Coker. Jimmy had numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. 

A funeral service will be at 10:00 AM on August 28, 2026, at Farmington Funeral Home. Officiated by Janice Montoya. Burial will follow at 12:30 PM at St. Luke's Cemetery in Carson, NM. 

Pallbearers are Shuan Beyale, Leon Burns, Patrick Burns, Raymond Tso, Caleb Chase, and Wallace Watchman.
