John Patrick Rich

John Patrick Rich, of Bloomfield, New Mexico, passed away on February 3, 2026, at San Juan Regional Hospital in Farmington, NM with his family by his side. John was born in Lancaster, Massachusetts, on January 21, 1962, the fourth child and only son of Joseph and Frances Rich. He graduated from Coquille High School in Coquille, Oregon, in 1980. He went on to study at Coos County Community College and worked for the Coos County Sherriff’s Office before joining the United States Marine Corps in November 1988. John graduated from Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego and served with distinction aboard multiple Navy and Marine Corps assets throughout the world during his twenty-year career. He deployed during the Gulf War, Kosovo, and the Global War on Terrorism. He retired in 2008 with the rank of Gunnery Sergeant (E-7). In his spare time, John enjoyed many hobbies, especially gunsmithing and hunting – pursuits he took pride in and shared with those he loved. He dreamed of being a Cowboy and lived that dream vicariously through a good western. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Brenda. John is survived by his wife, Christina; his sisters, Betty, Sue, and Debby; his daughters, Stefanie (Tony), Megan (Shane), and Erica, and his step kids Shyla (CJ), Brittny (Jon), Steven (Daylynn), his grandkids, Aiden, Shawn, Charlotte, Olivia, Adelyn, Liam, Trevin, Ryecker, Brody, Cooper, and Stormi.
