John Elsworth Scoville, of Aztec, New Mexico, passed away on May 5, 2025, at the age of 76. He was born on June 8, 1948, in Meadville, PA, Crawford County, to his adopted parents Miland and Mary Scoville.
John loved his family deeply and would do anything for them. He attended Arvada High School in Colorado. After graduating, he married his high school sweetheart and joined the Army, serving in Vietnam. Upon returning home, he began his family, raising four daughters.
He spent 45 years working in construction and another 15 years with the Aztec School District. Over the years, he was blessed with many grandchildren, three of whom he raised as his own, and several great-grandchildren. He was lovingly known as Dad, Pa, Grandpa, and Grandpa Grape.
John had a passion for gardening, especially flowers and plants, but his pride and joy were his strawberries and fruit bushes. He will be dearly missed. We love you.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Cindi Scoville; his parents, Mary and Miland Scoville; his brother, Tommy Scoville and Great Grandson Ryder Riaski.
He is survived by his son, Kendal Scoville; daughters Tonia Browning of Aztec, Carrie Scoville of Aztec, Kelly Scoville of Denver, Joni Scoville of Aztec, Cassandra Maples of Aztec, and Randi Perez of Aztec; brothers Mike Scoville of Otis, CO, and Jeff Scoville of Aurora, CO; sisters Teri Matson of Broomfield, CO, Ruth Scoville of Mississippi, Gretchin Scoville of Mississippi, and Colleen Wright of North Carolina.
He is also survived by his grandchildren: Cyndi Prickle of AZ, Curtis White of NM, Jacob Scoville Anway of NM, John Scoville Anway of AL, Justin Rhyne of TX, and Alicia Thiesson of NM; as well as his great-grandchildren: Barbara Perez of Aztec, NM, Rylah Riaski of Aztec, NM, Tru Scoville-Anway of Alabama, and Kash Perez of Aztec, NM.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 14, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Bethel Baptist Church, 201 Helland Rd, Aztec, NM, officiated by Pastor William Lee. A private interment will follow. All donations and memorials may be sent to Bethel Baptist Church.
