Johnny Edgar Barela

Mr. Johnny E. Barela, age 69 of Bloomfield, New Mexico, passed away on Tuesday June 23, 2026, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Johnny was born on December 11, 1956, in Farmington, New Mexico to Joe Barela and Ruby Chance.

John was mostly employed in the oil field and worked several years as a ditch runner, he enjoyed hunting, camping, fishing and playing cards. He always wanted to spend time with family and loved ones he was a great role model for any kids around and had a great sense of humor and was someone you could always depend on.

He was preceded in death by is wife of 46 years Frances Barela on December 26, 2025. His son: Baby Johnny, Parents: Joe and Ruby Barela, Sisters: Linda Arnold and Joanne Nunez. Paternal grandparents Demetrio and Alucaria Barela Maternal grandparents: Thomas Edgar De Chance and Mattie Chance.

Surviving are his sons: Shawn Barela, Josh Brooks and Joseph Barela. Daughters: Christel Brooks and Amanda Barela.

Grandchildren: Demetrio Brooks, Samuel Brooks, Elizabeth Brooks, Kendra Brooks, Azia Collins, Zeandra Collins, Juaquin Trejo, Genesis Trejo, Arianna Harrison, Everly Sanchez, Mariano Perez, JJ Perez, Renata Dominquez, Elias Barela, Audrianna Barela and Melissa Brooks.

Viewing and Visitation with the family will be held from 10:00-10:30 AM Wednesday July 1, 2026, followed by a Rosary Service at 10:30 AM and Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 307 N. Church St. Bloomfield, NM 87413.

Serving as pallbearers with be Shawn Barela, Demetrio Brooks, Samuel Brooks, Juaquin Trejo, Juan Santos and Gabe Archuleta.
