Obituary

Joni Teresa Duran, 66, of Farmington, NM, passed away on June 5, 2026, in Farmington. She was born on December 8, 1959, in Albuquerque, NM, to Edumenio and Helen Jaquez.

Joni graduated from Farmington High School. She worked for the State of New Mexico Department of Human Services, where she served as a secretary and later became head of clerical services. She also worked for the Farmington Municipal School District, earning her Commercial Driver’s License and driving a school bus. Later, she worked at an answering service alongside her daughter, Erin. However, Joni often said her most important role was being a stay-at-home mom, teaching her children and grandchildren the importance of loving Jesus and living a life of prayer.

Joni gave her heart to the Lord at a young age, spending time at Christian summer camps. She loved music. She played the piano and would play Fur Elise by Beethoven, which was one of the reasons she decided to learn to play. She was known to put music on in her home and dance with her children.

Joni was very family oriented. She enjoyed spending holidays with her family and having lunches with all her aunts, nieces and cousins. She was unwavering with how she loved her family. Especially her aunt and best friend, Ruth Gallegos.

Ultimately, Joni’s passion in life was her children and grandchildren. She spent her life loving her children and always wanting and sacrificing everything for them.

Joni was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond E. Duran; her son, Adam David Edward Duran; her parents, Edumenio and Helen A. Jaquez; her sister, Darla A. Jaquez; and her grandparents, Joe and Rose Martinez and Celestino and Pimenia Jaquez.

She is survived by her daughters, Erin M. Reed, Carol E. Duran, and Deidre R. Garcia; her brothers, Mike Jaquez, Mark Jaquez, and Richard Jaquez; her sister, Carolyn Jaquez McAdam; and her grandchildren, Gabrielle Reed, Eden Reed, Annelise Garcia, and Adam Garcia.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 9, 2026, at Hills Church, 5101 N. Dustin Ave., Farmington, NM, officiating will be Pastor Keith Corley. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery, 1606 N. Dustin Ave., Farmington, NM. Family and friends are invited to a luncheon at Hills Church following the graveside service.

Serving as Honorary Pallbearers are Mike Jaquez, Mark Jaquez, Richard Jaquez, Gabrielle Reed, Eden Reed, Adam Garcia, and Annelise Garcia.
