Obituary

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Carlos Gurule, who was born on October 10, 1946, in Fairview, New Mexico.

Carlos was raised in Cebolla, New Mexico, and graduated from Tierra Amarilla High School in 1966. In 1975, he and his beloved wife, Sofie Gurule, moved to Blanco, New Mexico, where they built their home and raised their family together.

Carlos spent his career as a semi-truck driver and heavy equipment operator. He was a hardworking man who took pride in providing for his family and serving others. A devoted member of Bloomfield Assembly of God, he faithfully served on the church board for many years.

Carlos enjoyed the simple things in life—camping with family and friends, herding cattle in Las Nutrias with his brothers and son on their dirt bikes and sharing his love of Chevrolet vehicles with them. One of his favorite stories was meeting the love of his life, Sofie, at Blake's Lotaburger in Española, New Mexico, where their lifelong journey together began.

Carlos was preceded in death by his loving wife, Sofie Gurule; his parents, Maclovio and Nestora Gurule; his brothers, Mack Gurule Jr., Arturo Gurule, and Julian Gurule; and his sisters, Sister Erlinda Gurule, Bertha (Joe) Rivera, and Rebecca Lovato.

He is survived by his siblings Flavio (Myrna) Gurule, Alvino (Jeanette) Gurule, Minnie (Orlando) Martinez, Loyola Romero, Prescilla (Alex) Salazar, Esther Gurule, Mary (Antonio) Gurule and Candido Gurule; his children, Joey Gurule and Dorene (Dwayne) Miller; his grandchildren, Kenneth Bohannon, Alexis (Nicholas) Fierro, Tyrell (Carrie) Miller, Ashley Miller, and Kyle Miller; and six cherished great-grandchildren, along with many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

Carlos will be remembered for his strong faith, generous heart, steady work ethic, and deep love for his family. His quiet strength, wisdom, and kindness touched everyone who knew him. While he will be deeply missed, his legacy of faith and love will continue to live on through those whose lives he blessed.

"Well done, good and faithful servant." — Matthew 25:23

A memorial service will be held at Bloomfield Assembly of God on Saturday July 11, 2026, at 11:00 am. A private graveside service will take place at a later date.
