Joshua Huggins, was lifelong resident of the Four Corners area and a man deeply rooted in the land he loved. He passed away peacefully at his home in La Plata, New Mexico, on December 31, 2025. He was 42 years old.
Born on December 6, 1983, in Farmington, New Mexico, to Kenneth and Gayle Huggins, Josh was raised on the family farm in La Plata. It was there that he discovered his true calling. While others found hobbies elsewhere, Josh devoted nearly all of his free time to the rhythms of the farm. He found profound peace and purpose in caring for the crops and livestock, a passion that remained a cornerstone of his life until the very end.
In his professional life, Josh worked in the local oilfield for many years, driving heavy equipment transport and rig-up trucks. He took immense pride in his trade, achieving an advanced skill level at a remarkably young age—a testament to his focus, work ethic, and natural ability behind the wheel.
Josh is survived by his parents, Kenneth (Kenny) and Gayle Huggins. He is also survived by his older brother Jerry Huggins and wife Tracy, his younger sister Jamie Fenn and husband Johnny, and his younger brother Jonah Huggins and wife Bree. Josh also leaves behind his high school sweetheart and former wife, Lavette Bair.
Josh was preceded in death by his grandparents, Kenneth and Patricia Huggins, and Alfred and Hazel Smith. He will be remembered by those who knew him as a man of the earth—hardworking, exceptionally skilled, and devoted to his family and the land.
