Katherine Black

November 27, 1958 — May 24, 2023

Farmington

Our mom Katherine (Kitty) Elizabeth Black peacefully passed Wednesday May 24, 2023, after an 8 year battle with Frontotemporal Dementia.

Kitty was born November 27, 1958 in Reno, NV to Mae Black and Robert Shaw. She was the second of four children and one bonus brother.

She loved to travel and go to concerts. Aerosmith was her favorite, as she was part of their official fan club. Some of her happiest moments were traveling with her kids while they were growing up and traveling all over California with her favorite cousin, Tammy. She also loved to run on the beach and watch the sunset.

Kitty raised her family in the Farmington area and retired as a San Juan County 11th Judicial District Court Clerk.

She was a very involved mother and grandmother. She loved attending orchestra performances, wrestling tournaments,  and soccer games to cheer on her grandchildren.  Kitty was loved by many and had a presence that could light up the room. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

She was preceeded in death by her parents, Mae Black and Robert Shaw, and ex-husband and friend Casey McBride. Cousin Tammy Bradshaw.

She is survived by her children Jessica (Loren) Dickens, Jake (Shara) McBride. Grandchildren Kyren and Jax Dickens. Skylnn, Jaren, Addison and Ryleigh McBride. Her three nephews who were very near and dear to her heart, Preston (Susan) and family, Jermaine and Marcus (Lindsey) Williams.  Many friends and family.

Her children and grandchildren will have a private ceremony.

Her children would also like to thank the staff at Sunshine Gardens, Durango, for caring for our mom this past year. Also, her private caregivers the last two years while she was still in her home, Renee Hawkins and Shawn Marie Symmonds.
