Kathleen (Kathy) Spencer age 86 was born on September 27, 1939, in Hubbard, AZ to LaVar and Sybil (Wamsley) Bingham. She passed away peacefully on February 10, 2026, at home with her daughter at her side in Farmington, NM.
Kathy attended and graduated from Farmington High School in 1958, where she first met her husband, Wade Spencer. They didn’t start dating until 1960 and at 22 years old she married the love of her life on October 6, 1961, at the groom’s family home in Farmington, NM. Their marriage lasted 60 beautiful years – a partnership built on commitment, loyalty, and love. After Wade’s passing in 2021, their story remains one of devotion and endurance.
Kathy had a lively spirit, she worked as a hairdresser at Plamer Plaza, then moved to Omni Hair Design where she not only styled hair but built friendships and community. Later she began a new chapter with the State of New Mexico in the Human Services Department, serving faithfully until her retirement. She was a woman who worked hard and cared deeply for people. Outside of work, her creativity truly shined. If you knew her, you knew she loved flowers, hummingbirds and dragonflies. She found joy in creating beauty with her hands. She loved crocheting, making crafts, gardening, reading, and word search. Those weren’t just preferences – that reflected her spirit. She was vibrant, nurturing, and full of life. But more than anything she loved her family.
She is survived by her son Dennis Spencer (Sheryl) of Farmington, NM daughter Melissa Spencer of Farmington, NM. Her granddaughter Jessica Hughes (Jeramy) Carlsbad, NM, and grandson Adam Spencer of Farmington, NM. She was also blessed with the joy of becoming a great-grandmother to Anna Sharice Hughes – a role that brought her so much happiness. She is also survived by her sisters Virgina Bryan, Lucy Colman and many nieces and nephews.
Kathy lived a full life, one of dedication, creativity, and deep love. Though we will miss her more than words can express, we will carry her with us each and every day.
