Katie Jo Lorett Hunter, 66, of Farmington, New Mexico, passed away on January 19, 2023, in Farmington, New Mexico. Katie was born on October 1, 1956, in Farmington, New Mexico, to parents Wilbur Floyd Lorett & Sally Jo Lorett.

 

On January 19, 2023, we lost our amazing mother, Meme, and beloved wife, Katie Lorett Hunter. Katie passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family. Katie was born on October 1,1956 to Wilbur and Sally Lorett. Katie had a younger sister and brother, Debbie Lorett Evans and Donnie Lorett. Katie graduated from FHS in 1974. Her infectious personality and smile created many life-long friendships. Katie worked for Plateau Refinery and Vinson Supply. Katie and Ralph met square dancing & boy did she love to dance. She married the love of her life on July 31, 1981. At this time, she replaced her career with her favorite career choice as a Domestic Goddess, as she would say. Together they have two of the most amazing daughters, Charissa Kay and Kellie Jo, four awesome grandkids, & six exciting and fun great-grandchildren. Katie loved being a mother & Meme. She didn’t miss important events of her children, grandchildren, & great-grandchildren. Nothing brought her more joy than her family & Spending time with them.

 

Katie devoted her life to Christ and her family. She was a faithful member of The First Church of Christ Scientist. She loved music and played the piano for her church. Katie also stayed very involved with her daughters' schools and served faithfully on the PTA. Katie was full of life with a contagious laugh. She was an avid sports fan. There wasn’t a game she didn’t watch when it came to the NFL and MLB. The two teams she loved cheering on were her Denver Broncos & Colorado Rockies. Katie also had a strong love for our country and our freedoms.

 

Katie is preceded in death by her parents Wilbur Floyd Lorett & Sally Jo Thompson Lorett, her sister: Debra Lee Lorett Evans; grandparents: Leslie Calvin Thompson, Kate Cornelia Hahn Thompson, Joseph James Lorett, & Maud Pearl Hartman Lorett.

 

Katie is survived by husband, Ralph Paul Hunter, Jr.; daughter Charissa Kay Hunter Thurston (Justin); daughter Kellie Jo Hunter (John); and grandson, RC Thurston (Lindsey); granddaughters: Morgan Maree Thurston Smith (Trent); Tatum Nichole Thurston Ames (Brady); Analyce Ren Thurston Steers (Nathan); great-grandchildren: Norah Maree Smith, Rex Corey Thurston, Lincoln Palmer Smith, Mik Ames, Penny J Smith, Kolt Justin Thurston; brother, Donnie Ray Lorett (Becky), Several nieces and nephews.

 

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, February 18, 2023, at 11:00am, at Farmington Funeral Home located at 2111 W. Apache Street, Farmington, New Mexico.
