Lonnie Edward
Sanchez
Mar 7, 1975 — Nov 1, 2026
Farmington
Lonnie Edward Sanchez, 51, of Farmington, New Mexico, passed away on November 1, 2026.
Lonnie was born on March 7, 1975, in Española, New Mexico, to Tony Filemon Sanchez and Georgia Maria Trujillo Sanchez. He grew up in Chamita, New Mexico, surrounded by the traditions and close family ties of northern New Mexico.
Lonnie dedicated more than 34 years of his life to the United States Postal Service. He began his career in Española before transferring to Bloomfield, New Mexico, where he continued working until his retirement in 2025.
Lonnie will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor, infectious laugh, and playful personality. Much like his father, he had a gift for finding humor in everyday situations and bringing laughter to those around him. His sister affectionately called him “the Great Debater,” as he enjoyed a lively discussion and sometimes argued a point simply for the fun of it. His laughter was contagious, and the memories of those shared moments will remain with the people who loved him.
An avid outdoorsman, Lonnie especially loved fishing, a passion he developed while spending time fishing and camping with his father. He found peace and happiness near the water and appreciated the beauty of the natural world.
He was also a passionate rockhound who enjoyed collecting, identifying, and polishing stones, patiently tumbling them until their natural beauty emerged. He enjoyed riding his bicycle and had a creative and artistic side, particularly when working with wood. He carved wooden crosses and decorated them with intricate wood-burned designs.
Lonnie was also an excellent cook who loved experimenting with new recipes. He took pride in the meals he prepared and often shared photographs of his culinary creations with his sister, along with videos of recipes he hoped to try. Cooking was another expression of his creativity and his enjoyment of life's simple pleasures.
Although he enjoyed the company of his close circle of friends, Lonnie also valued his independence and quiet moments. He found contentment in his hobbies, his friendships, and the freedom to pursue the things he loved.
Raised in the Catholic faith, Lonnie served as an altar boy during his childhood and remained proud of his Catholic heritage throughout his life.
Lonnie is survived by his three sons, Alex Jude Sanchez, Alejandro Sanchez, and Santiago Sanchez; his sister, Sandra Sanchez Ridlon; his nephew, Adam Armenta; and his niece, Amanda Armenta.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Tony Filemon Sanchez and Georgia Maria Trujillo Sanchez; his brother, Anthony Marvin Sanchez, affectionately known as Marvin and grandparents Eduardo Sanchez & Luisita Herrera Sanchez and Benito Trujillo & Josefita Montoya Trujillo.
A Catholic Funeral Mass will be celebrated in Lonnie's honor, with his cremated remains present. Family and friends are invited to gather in prayer and remembrance. The date, time, and location will be announced once arrangements have been finalized.
Lonnie will be remembered for his laughter, his creativity, his love of nature, and the memories he leaves in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. May he rest in eternal peace.
