Lorraine (Lori) Corinne Turner Cosby, age 76, of Farmington, NM, passed away on January 26th, 2026, surrounded by family members after a brief illness at UNM Hospital in Albuquerque.
Born on February 11, 1949, in Hobbs, NM, Lori was the daughter of James Clinton Turner and Corrine Lorene DeYoung Turner. She grew up in Hobbs, NM, and graduated from Hobbs High School in 1968. She lived in Las Cruces, NM; Redondo Beach, CA; and Roswell, NM, before moving to Farmington in 1977.
Throughout her life, Lori was known for her kindness and love for her neighbors, her involvement in the PTA, as a Girl Scout leader, and many other community activities. Early in her career, Lori worked as a secretary for local contractors and later for Farmington Municipal Schools as both a school librarian and a classroom aide. She took great joy in seeing her students from both Animas Elementary and Mesa View Middle School grow and start families of their own.
Outside of work, she enjoyed spending time at Navajo Lake over the years, camping, boating, skiing, and was very active. Lori's most rewarding role was that of Nana to her four grandchildren. She was an avid quilter and had been a member of the San Juan Quilters Guild for over 40 years. She enjoyed quilting and sharing that gift with everyone she knew, in the form of countless baby and wedding quilts, and especially coordinating community involvement through the Quilters Guild by distributing charity quilts to local non-profits, disaster relief efforts, and the Hearts of Valor program, which provides quilts for veterans. When she wasn’t quilting or sewing, you could find her in her yard, gardening, and with her dog, Oreo.
Lori is survived by her daughter, Tera Cosby Marquez; son-in-law, Joe Marquez; and three grandsons, Jonah Marquez, Aidan Marquez, and Asante Marquez, of Camarillo, CA, and granddaughter, Cezanne Marquez, of Santa Barbara, CA, Cousins Beth and Frank Chiapetti, Kim Butkovich, of Gallup, NM and her best friend Carol Miller of Bloomfield, NM. She leaves behind an extensive network of friends in her community. Lori was preceded in death by her father, James Clinton Turner; her mother, Corrine Lorene DeYoung Turner; and her cousin, Loyce Sage.
Services will be held on Friday, January 30th, 2026, Time: 10:00-12:00 pm at Farmington Funeral Home, 2111 W. Apache Street, Farmington, NM.
